I want to Play...

Description

...good music, old and new. I can play guitar, piano, percussion, sing, harmonize, etc. I need someone to be the Garfunkel of my Simon. We can do a lot (musically) with just dual vocals and a couple instruments. I feel like harmony is the missing piece for a lot of the songs I like to play. I think my vocal style would best fit someone who can sing a little higher. (If you can hit the chorus notes on "Heart of Gold" then I think its a good fit. My favorite artist is Neil Young and I can crush a few of his classics like "Old Man" and "Heart of Gold". I'd love to have a small set of covers (10 or more, with our own unique spin and harmonies where they maybe didn't exist) that we could perform anytime, anywhere when called upon. This is not a serious career move. Just looking for some other people to jam with locally who wouldn't be apposed to playing live every now and then if we felt like it. I'm perfectly happy being a campfire musician with a fan base of just friends who think I'm amazing (but they don't know any better). I just have a knack for playing songs that everyone loves. I write songs here and there as well. I'm 40 years old and live in Bothell, WA and have a wife and 2 kids. I work on Phinney Ridge in Seattle and we could ideally practice in my office there after 5:00pm at least once per week. Our office is a 100 year old building with storefront just a few doors up from the 74th St. Ale House. I like older acoustic music by the aforementioned Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Crosby Stills Nash Young, Cat Stevens, Yes, Supertramp, Peter Gabriel. I like newer acoustic music by Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Temple of the Dog, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Mad Season, Elliot Smith, Radiohead, The Lumineers, Built to Spill, Pixies, The Head and the Heart, Nada Surf, Beck, Jack White, etc. Most these bands can rock pretty hard, but they also all have beautiful songs that would translate well to acoustic guitars and a dual vocal harmony. Here is a preliminary list of songs to go from. I know most of these fairly well, but others need to be learned or polished up. I'm also not opposed to completely changing the songs to sound totally different, as I do on some of them. ....Older.... Old Man - Neil Young Norwegian Wood - The Beatles Homeward Bound - Simon and Garfunkel Two of Us - The Beatles Heart of Gold - Neil Young I am a Rock - Simon and Garfunkel Hear Comes the Sun - The Beatles Even in the Quietest Moments - Supertramp I've Seen All Good People - Yes Tomorrow Is a Long Time - Bob Dylan Suite Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby Stills Nash A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Heroes - David Bowie ....Newer.... I'm Bound to Pack it Up - White Stripes All Apologies - Nirvana Everlong - Foo Fighters Polly - Nirvana Penny Royal Tea - Nirvana (my own Folky version) Better Man - Pearl Jam Daughter - Pearl Jam I am Mine - Pearl Jam How's It Going To Be - Third Eye Blind Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers Been Thinking About You - Radiohead Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog Jane Says - Janes Addiction Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips Wildfire - Mandolin Orange Book of Love - Magnetic Fields The Past Recedes - John Frusciante The Will to Death - John Frusciante Blonde on Blonde - Nada Surf River of Deceit - Mad Season The list goes on, but I'd like to get it narrowed down to about 10 or more songs that we can do justice to and really execute well. Let me know if you or anyone you know might be a good fit. I don't have many recordings to share. Just a couple of pictures of me playing. -Joel
