I. Position Irrigation Technician II. Related Titles None III. Status Non-Exempt IV. Essential Functions and Responsibilities – Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Irrigation Technician is primarily responsible for the installation, upkeep, service and repair of any irrigation or water distribution system. To accomplish this, the duties of the Irrigator are such as but not limited to the following: 1. Installs, services, repairs, replaces and tests any and all facets of irrigation and water distribution through out the property. 2. Monitors for, immediately responds to, corrects and reports irrigation and water distribution problems such as leaks, breakage, potential for breakage and malfunction. 3. Safely secures and discharges all stored energy within water and electrical systems before commencing repair. 4. Maintains irrigation parts stocking in a neat, identifiable and orderly fashion, notifying the Assistant Superintendent when parts and supplies drop to a two piece or one repair status. 5. Minimally excavates, backfills, cleans, sods and cares for sod to accomplish tasks. 6. Cleans, organizes, cares for, replaces and secures all tools used immediately after job completion. 7. Keeps irrigation room neat and organized. V. Additional Responsibilities 1. Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Laborer and Operator positions. 2. Stores incoming irrigation stock. 3. Communicates daily with the Assistant Superintendent on all irrigation matters such as but not limited to existing or potential problems, cost saving ideas and stock levels. 4. Must be familiar with all HIOSH and MSDS policies as they pertain to the Irrigation Technician’s regular duties. 5. Performs other duties as requested. VI. Working Conditions 1. Repair work will predominately be done outdoors in the field. 2. Repair work will regularly be done to hardware under ground, usually involving water and mud. 3. Must be available for work from 5:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 5:00 a.m. until complete on a weekend day to be determined by Management. 4. Additional work days and time will be required on occasion and for Holidays. VII. Mental Demands - This position requires a mindfulness for safety and courtesy, awareness, alertness, anticipation, cooperation, memory retention, attention to detail, taking responsibility for success and quality of repair and irrigation system restoration, common sense and self evaluation and correction. VIII. Physical Demands - While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, squat, dig, shovel, step down into, talk, and hear. The employee is required to reach with arms and hands, climb and balance; regularly lift, lower, push and pull fifty pounds. The employee must meet vision requirements of close, distant, color, peripheral and depth perception. IX. Qualification Requirements 1. Skills/Knowledge/Experience – The position requires a working knowledge of hydraulic theory, principles and practice; hands on familiarity with plumbing tools and repair supplies; reading and interpreting irrigation maps; speaking, reading and understanding English; reading and understanding equipment operator manuals; good eye and hand coordination; driving manual or standard transmission; driving or walking in straight and proportionately curved lines; communicate effectively; and have a minimum one year of experience on a golf maintenance staff. 2. Education – Must have a high school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED). X. Work Environment – An employee in this position is routinely exposed to water, dirt and mud, outside weather conditions, odors from plumbing repair supplies, hazards associated with golf courses like flying golf balls and elevated noise levels. XI. Reports To – Assistant Superintendent.
