Youth Mental Health First aid is a mental health & suicide prevention training geared towards youth supporters 16+ Date & Time: Saturday, September 18th, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Location: La Center Evangelical Church, 111 E 5th st. La Center, WA 98629 Cost: Free Training Description: La Center United is hosting trainer Curtis Miller to provide a youth mental health and sucide prevention training. Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. We believe in the power of positive community change when we all work together. The coalition formed as a grassroots effort by concerned citizens in 2013. In 2014, La Center United incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and in 2015 we were awarded a federal Drug Free Communities Support Program grant for $125,000 a year for five years. With this funding, we are working to increase community collaboration and reduce substance use and mental health issues facing today’s youth.
