Description

A community event to honor CASA volunteers for their powerful advocacy on behalf of our community's abused and neglected children. The CASA Courage Awards event honors the remarkable contributions of CASA volunteers and inspires the next generation of advocates. Last time CASA Courage Awards drew 400 people in a truly compelling outpouring of support and appreciation. This year's CASA Courage Awards promise to be just as vibrant, with former Lucas County foster youth, Juliana Barton, as the keynote speaker. Thank you to our Presenting Sponsor Buckeye Broadband for contributing to this event. 5:30 p.m. Cocktails & Dinner 6:30 p.m. Presentation of CASA Courage Awards Lucas County CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocates – is a non-profit organization of volunteers who work for the juvenile court judges to help abused and neglected children find safe and permanent homes. The Lucas County CASA Program, one of the oldest and most respected of the nearly 1000 CASA programs nationwide, has operated in Lucas County since 1980. CASA volunteers are everyday citizens who are trained to investigate and monitor child abuse cases. CASA volunteers work for the juvenile court judges and are sworn officers of the court. CASA’s mission is to advocate so that child victims do not get lost in the system and find safe, permanent homes. Approximately 4,000 allegations of child abuse and neglect are investigated annually in Lucas County. CASA volunteers work with about 1,000 children each year.
