Tilton Award winner Dr. Stephen Permut, M.D, J.D. will discuss the breakthrough medical work of Delaware's Dr. James Tilton. On September 14, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., please join the Tilton Society of Delaware to hear Tilton Award winner Dr. Stephen Permut, M.D, J.D. discuss the breakthrough medical work of Delaware's Dr. James Tilton, horticulturist, surgeon, legislator and Revolutionary War hero. Based on information from another well-known Delaware physician Dr. William H. Duncan who authored Founders of the Medical Society of Delaware, Dr. Permut will explore how Dr. Tilton pioneered controlling the spread of disease and infection for America's soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Dr. Permut's program is bound to interest Delaware history buffs and anyone interested in in the medical history of controlling the spread of disease since colonial times. The lecture is free but registration is required to attend. After attending the lecture, guests are welcome to purchase dinner at the University and Whist Club. Reservations are required to attend the lecture as well as to reserve your dinner reservation. This program is funded in part by a grant from Delaware Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Tilton Society of Delaware is an organization whose purpose is to educate about the life's work of Dr. James Tilton and the historic significance of the Tilton Mansion on Broom Street in Wilmington, Delaware. The Tilton Mansion is a contributing property to the Eighth Street Park Historic District (or Tilton Park Historic District).
