Bihl Haus Arts will host a free “COVID Coping: Workshop for First Responders and Front-Line Staff” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28 at the gallery, 2803 Fredericksburg Road. The workshop, which is a demonstration project of a pilot program funded by the Texas Commission on the Arts, will focus on strategies and techniques for coping with the stress and trauma of the pandemic. It is open to first responders, front-line staff, essential workers, hospital workers at all levels, EMT, fire and police personnel, sanitation workers, grocery check-out workers and baggers, postal employees and teachers. Working in written, visual, kinetic, and inter-personal modes, presenters Jim LaVilla-Havelin and Jill Ewing will guide participants through a variety of experiences designed to address the anxiety, stress, and trauma of working in/living through the dangers of COVID-19. “We understand the physical and mental stresses that our essential workers face while taking care of the community after more than a year of dealing with the pandemic, so we want to provide an opportunity for them to relieve those anxieties through the arts and journaling during this workshop,” said Kellen McIntyre, Bihl Haus Arts executive director. Journals, art materials, lunch and other resources will be provided. The maximum capacity is 15 people. Sign up by Wednesday, August 25 at www.BihlHausArts.org or call (210) 383-9723 to attend.
