Paris is Burning was a landmark film in capturing the ball scene, drag culture, and trans/gender-nonconforming experiences of late 80s NYC and continues to be a rare record of the legendary, exhilarating innovation of the Black and Latinx queens who built 80s and 90s dance culture amidst state-sanctioned homophobia and transphobia and the AIDS crisis. Come early to chat with local LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations who will be tabling and sharing their work before the screening.
