Newton To Require Masks In All Municipal Buildings

NEWTON, MA — Newton will require all members of the public and employees to wear masks inside city buildings beginning Thursday, August 26, said Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in a community update Monday. The mandate applies to all areas of city buildings where the public have access and includes City Hall, the Newton Free Library, the Senior Center, and police and fire buildings. "As we continue to navigate the changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, listen to the medical experts, watch the data here in Newton, monitor mask usage in the city, and recognize the challenges and spread of the Delta variant, we are updating our mask policy to reinforce safety," said Fuller in her update. "We know masks work," she continued. "Thank you for wearing masks and helping to stem the spread of COVID-19 in our community." The new policy also required city employees who are entering non-public buildings as part of their job to wear face coverings.
