CATALINA ISLAND, CA — U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fort Walton) eloped to Southern California pm Saturday, marrying his girlfriend Ginger Luckey in a small surprise ceremony on Catalina Island. In recent days, the controversial GOP congressman has been celebrating their nuptials on social media, sharing pictures from their big day — along with several heart emojis — and declaring, "I love my wife!" Sergio Gor, a former Rand Paul staffer, served as both officiant and DJ for the ceremony, Vanity Fair reported. About 40 people were in attendance at the event, including "War Room" hosts Raheem Kassam and Natalie Winters. Before Saturday's wedding, the couple had been engaged and planned to get married in August 2022. Gaetz, 39, and Luckey, 26, met at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club last year. They got engaged at the private club Dec. 30 after dating for about 10 months. I love my wife! pic.twitter.com/bQ59V7BDsy— Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) August 22, 2021 "It didn't come as a surprise. I had sort of seen it coming," Luckey told the Daily Mail. Gaetz told Vanity Fair that he asked Trump's approval before popping the question. "You never want to upstage the big guy," the Republican representative said. Gaetz is under investigation as part of a sex trafficking case including the paying of a 17-year-old girl for sex. His close friend, Joel Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector, accepted a plea deal in May in the same investigation, pleading guilty to six federal crimes including sex trafficking of a child, identity theft, stalking, wire fraud and conspiracy to bribe a public official, according to The Washington Post.
