Press release from Georgetown University: 2021-08-22 Today, the Institute of Politics and Public Service at Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy welcomes the first in-person class of Fellows in over a year and a half! The GU Politics Fellows Program brings the biggest names in politics back to campus. We believe in the power of connecting students with practitioners to have a conversation that flows two ways— where students learn from leaders in the arena, and leaders learn from students about how to do politics better. This group of Fellows can't wait to get to campus, host their weekly discussion groups, and meet with YOU during their office hours. As we return back to campus after over a year away, we've built a class of Fellows that matches the energy students are bringing back to the Hilltop. Get ready for dynamic discussions about the strategies reformers are using to "fix" a broken politics, the new era of great power competition between the U.S. and China, how to design a national security apparatus for the modern era (and get it passed through Congress!), the power and backlash generated by increased representation in the newsroom, how to curb rampant disinformation online and address biases in our media, the impact of electoral winners and losers on social and political policies, and so much more. You'll be challenged, informed, and inspired through this rare peek behind the curtain at the way Washington works. How can you make the most of the Fellows' expertise and the access they bring to the world of politics? FELLOWS FEST & GU Politics Kickoff On September 9th from 4-5:30 PM, please join us for our GU Politics Open House with the Fall 2021 Fellows! You can learn more about our Fellows' backgrounds, what they have planned for the semester, and ask any questions you might have! A special McCourt School Happy Hour with the Fellows will immediately follow. We hope you'll also consider getting involved with GU Politics in other ways this year by: At GU Politics, we have a motto: Public service is a good thing. Politics can be, too. Our students and the connections they forge with newsmakers and leaders through our Institute give us the hope that we can transform politics for the better. We can't wait to get started with you this semester.
