Press release from the Town of Waterford: August 21, 2021 An Important Message from Town of Waterford Emergency Management Regarding Hurricane Henri First Selectman Rob Brule has directed fire and police officials to visit areas of Waterford that may be at risk of flooding due to Hurricane Henri. Residents in these areas should first consider evacuating to the homes of family or friends. If necessary, you may use the Red Cross shelter at East Lyme Middle School, 31 Society Road, East Lyme beginning at 6:00 pm Saturday. This shelter is open to Waterford residents. It is our designated regional shelter. If you choose to go to the Red Cross Shelter, please bring: Bedding 3 days of clothing Medications Your child's stuffed animals You will be required to wear a mask The Red Cross Shelter will provide: A safe place to sleep Meals / Snacks Health Services Some activities for children The Red Cross Shelter is pet-friendly for cats, dogs, birds, and small reptiles only! They will be boarded in a separate area and will be taken care of by Animal Control Professionals. Please bring: Your pet's leash / collar / harness Special Food (dog food is available on site) Your pet's favorite toy, blanket Your cat's litter box with litter Cages for reptiles or birds During this weather-related emergency event, the First Selectman has activated the Emergency Operations Center and brought together a team of personnel who will be working through the storm to ensure that residents are safe and prepared for Hurricane Henri. If you need information you may call us at (860)442-9451 The attached image is the evacuation area that Waterford Emergency Management has determined is at risk for floodingand or inaccessible due to water.
