SILVER SPRING, MD — A 70-year-old Silver Spring resident usually buys one lotto ticket each night when he gets off his shift at a local car wash. Last week he decided to break routine and buy a $10 ticket — the $1,000 loaded.
Then he broke his routine again. He saw there was only one more $1,000 loaded ticket left and decided to get that one too.
"Something told me to buy that last ticket," the unidentified man told the Maryland Lottery.
He scratched it off when he got home and saw that the second ticket he bought was a $100,000 winner.
"I was amazed, just about the happiest I've ever been," he told the Maryland Lottery. "But I had to wait until my family arrived before I could really celebrate. We're a pretty low-key group, but, boy, was that a fun night."
He said that he's going to use the money to pay off his mortgage and help any family members out when the need arises.
"I'm very happy to be in a position now to help the people I love," he said.
He bought the ticket at the Wheaton Winery on University Lottery in Silver Spring.
