Description
HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County fire inspectors say unattended candles lit too close to combustible materials were the cause of a storage unit fire in the Herndon area of the county on Friday, according to a blog post.
Fairfax County Fire & Rescue units responded around 2:11 p.m. to the 2900 block of Centreville Road for the report of a building fire.
Arriving on the scene, firefighters observed smoke coming from two storage units. Despite the fact there were multiple interior and exterior storage units in the building, firefighters were quickly able to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
A passerby called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the outside storage units.
Three storage units received smoke and fire damage. Investigators estimated the damage caused the fire to be about $165,000.
Fire and rescue units from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority assisted in the response to this fire.
