CONCORD, NH — A woman in Hudson is facing reckless conduct charges after firing a gun and barricading herself inside a home on Saturday. Police, around 4:30 p.m., were sent to Bush Hill Road for a report of possible intruders on the property. The first arriving officers "quickly determined," according to police, that there were no intruders. Eleanor Wing, 55, was accused of barricading herself inside of the home. The Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit was requested and the area was closed to the public. After a "lengthy negotiation," police said, Wing was arrested on three reckless conduct counts and held at the Valley Street Jail. She will be arraigned on Monday. Hampton Pilot Dies In Crash Andy Travnicek of Hampton, a member of the GEICO Skytypers air team scheduled to perform in Pennsylvania this weekend, died in a crash on Friday, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. Travnicek, who served overseas, including in Afghanistan, was flying a World War II plane at the time when it crashed and caught on fire. Elizabeth 'Sammy' Hager For Governor? New Hampshire has a lot of new residents so many may not remember Liz Hager or her contributions to the city and state. Hager came to mind after a walk on School Street Saturday before the Market Days Festival when I saw this old bumper sticker, attached to an electrical box, from her unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign. Hager, a longtime Republican who was pro-choice and an income tax advocate, lost the 1992 gubernatorial primary to Steve Merrill. Someone, amusingly, wrote "Sammy" as her middle name on the sticker — a tribute to the former Van Halen frontman who spells his name with an A before the R. Before running for governor, Hager was Concord's mayor for a term and a city councilor, too, for several terms. She also served in the Legislature for 13 terms before being ousted in the September 2008 primary (the district, at the time, had four state representatives elected from Wards 5, 6, 7). Hager mounted an unsuccessful write-in campaign in the 2008 general election in an effort to bump off Rick Watrous, a Democrat, out of what was presumed to be a safe Democrat seat.
