Keepataw Parade Committee Names Beverly Marzec as Grand Marshall

The 2021 Keepataw Day Parade Committee has named Lemont resident Beverly Marzec as its Grand Marshall for this year's parade that will take place on Sunday, September 5th at 2 pm during Labor Day Weekend. The announcement was made at the Lemont Cruise Nights car show on August 18th and was a surprise to Marzec, who is also on the parade committee. The theme for this year's parade is "Hometown Heroes," and Marzec was selected based on her enduring commitment to improving schools in the Lemont community. Marzec has served on the Lemont Township High School District 210 Board of Education for 30 years, the longest tenure in the history of the board. During that time, she has attended 360 regular school board meetings and countless other special meetings. She was the board's first female president, serving in that capacity from 2009 to 2013. Marzec also acts as the board's representative to the National Association for Federally Impacted Schools. During her time on the board, she has helped guide the district through bond issues, construction, financial challenges, key leadership changes, and most recently, a global pandemic. Marzec also served for 19 years as the Athletic Director for SS. Cyril and Methodius School in Lemont, where her children attended grade school. She was instrumental in expanding the school's athletic program. She continues as Secretary of the school's Athletic Commission and is also Secretary of the South Suburban Catholic Conference. "Throughout her years of service, Beverly has always prioritized what is best for students. She is also an advocate for the faculty and staff and constantly serves as one of the most loyal and positive ambassadors for our schools within the community. Her involvement with District 210 is extraordinary, and her dedication is without measure," says Dr. Mary Ticknor, Lemont High School District 210 Superintendent. When she's not volunteering, Marzec is employed as a Multi-Functional Business Partner for the Physical Science and Engineering Directorate at Argonne National Laboratory, where she oversees day-to-day activities and performance and provides an interface between laboratory organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Lewis University. Of being named Grand Marshall, Marzec says, "I am humbled by this great honor. Lemont is my life. I love this town and I look forward to Parade Day!"
