GLENVIEW, IL — After nearly four months of declining numbers, Glenview is continuing to trend in the wrong direction, with coronavirus cases on the rise for the eighth straight week (three-week moving average). The number of new cases in Glenview increased by 89 percent over the last two weeks, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. (Cook County Department of Public Health)In all, Glenview has seen 4,737 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 50 new cases reported last week, compared to 34 new cases for the week of Aug. 9-16. Since the first death was recorded on April 8, 2020, 105 Glenview residents have died from the coronavirus. The last two deaths came on May 21. In Glenview, 34,650 people have completed their vaccine series, which is 77.5 percent of the population. It marks an increase of 254 fully vaccinated people since Aug. 16, according to the CCDPH. In addition, more than 90 percent of Glenview residents have received at least one dose. There have been 261,575 coronavirus cases in Cook County (excluding Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie, and Stickney Township) since the start of the pandemic, as of Monday. There have been 4,530 deaths. The community transmission level is currently substantial, according to the Cook County health officials. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 24,682 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois Friday, including 126 additional deaths, since the last weekly report on Aug. 13. More than 77 percent of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 60 percent of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,482,369 cases, including 23,717 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Since reporting on Aug. 13, laboratories have reported 462,916 specimens for a total of 28,072,697. As of Aug. 19, 2,000 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 468 patients were in the ICU and 234 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 13-19 is 5.3 percent. A total of 13,745,822 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of midnight Aug. 20. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 33,564 doses. Since reporting on Aug. 13, 234,949 doses were reported administered in Illinois.
