CLEVELAND — Curtis Gatheright pleaded guilty to shooting and killing an East Cleveland woman in October 2020, prosecutors announced. Gatheright, 22, was charged with one count of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated robbery, and one count of felonious assault. His sentencing date has not yet been determined. On Oct. 2, 2020, Gatheright and another man saw a woman meeting a friend near E. 204th Street and Lakeshore Boulevard in Euclid. When she returned to her car, they attempted to rob her, court documents said. The woman got into her car and tried to drive away. Shots were fired and the woman was hit in the back. She then crashed her car into a parked truck, court documents said. Gatheright and the other man got back into their car and drove away, court documents said. The woman's friend called 911 and Euclid police and EMS arrived and took the woman to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. "This senseless homicide is just another example of the wave of gun violence that is surging in our county," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley. "This victim was a wonderful mom, daughter, and friend to many in our community." Daylonta Jones, 21, the other person accused of involvement in the shooting, will begin his trial on Monday, prosecutors said.
