RIVERHEAD, NY — A Bronx mother was charged with driving while intoxicated with four children in her vehicle in Riverhead early Sunday, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 12:01 a.m. when Ingrid Martinez, 41, was stopped on Northville Turnpike near Maple Avenue for failing to use her left turn signal while heading west. Martinez, who was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra, was found to intoxicated, police said. There were four children in the backseat of the vehicle — two, ages 9 and 13, were her own children, and two others, both 6, belonged to her female friend, 38, who was in the front passenger seat, police said. Martinez was arrested and charged with four counts of Leandra's Law DWI and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said. Leandra's Law makes it a felony on the first offense in New York State to drive intoxicated with someone 15 or younger in the vehicle. Martinez was transported to Riverhead Police headquarters where she was processed and held for morning arraignment; the children were turned over to the other woman, police said.
