The Maintenance Custodian is responsible for the daily cleaning, repair, and improvement of the Courtyard Private School buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Custodian will represent a positive and supportive image to students, staff, and parents. He/ she will ensure that the buildings and grounds are free of any dangers, that they look and smell fresh, are functional for the purpose of teaching and learning as well as supporting parents, and are always aesthetically pleasing. The Maintenance Custodian will also contribute his/her talents to support an excellent school program and positive school culture. Essential duties and responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. * - Make repairs and troubleshoot problems on the buildings and around the property, including furniture, electrical, plumbing, roofs, etc * - Daily cleaning and sanitizing of bathrooms, classrooms, offices, gymnasium, and outside areas * - Setup and breakdown of community events, including tables, chairs, stage, audio/visual * - Deep clean special areas such as bathrooms * - Organize and maintain work areas for the Facilities Manager, and support other staff doing the same for their work areas * - Maintain work equipment and keep in clean working condition * - Respond to the requests of the school administrators and teachers as needed * - Deliver and pick up items for the school community as directed by the school administration * - Other duties as assigned by the school administration * Skill: - Although the Maintenance Custodian will be supported when necessary by contractors, the Maintenance Custodian must be able to fix general plumbing and electrical issues. * - The Maintenance Custodian must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the thorough cleaning and disinfecting of bathrooms, classrooms and other workspaces around campus. * - The Maintenance Custodian must use time wisely and efficiently, as well as demonstrate initiative for cleaning and repairing items that are not scheduled but need to be cleaned and repaired. * - The Maintenance Custodian must be flexible and willing to adjust scheduled tasks when needed. * - The Maintenance Custodian must understand safety procedures that will keep himself/ herself safe, as well as students, staff, parents, and visitors. * - Willingness to learn new trade skills and ways to make repairs to avoid, when possible, the use of hiring contractors * - Exhibit care and compassion for every Courtyard student and his/her family. * - Commit to the mission of Courtyard School and support its educational philosophy. * - Demonstrate strong public relations and communications skills. * - Demonstrate the ability to analyze situations and take appropriate actions in a variety of procedural matters without immediate or direct supervision. * - Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. * Qualification: - High school diploma or equivalent. - Must be a minimum of 18 years old. - Must possess transportation and a valid California drivers license. - Experience working with elementary students preferred. - Must pass a background check.
