Description

Welcome “Bach” to live performances with Bach’s Cantata 1 & Brandenburg Concerto No. 1. We’re celebrating our return to live concerts with a pair of Bach firsts! Bach’s Cantata 1: Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (How beautifully the morning star shines) is built around a hymn composed by the Lutheran pastor Phillip Nicolai that compares Christ with the morning star. The bright and uplifting tune is followed by Bach’s exalted Brandenburg Concerto No. 1. Widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era, the six Brandenburg Concertos stretch and expand the capabilities of the Baroque orchestral music. The Brandenburg Concertos showcase Bach at his very best–you won’t want to miss this reopening tribute! Full Program: Bach: Cantata 1: Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (How beautifully the morning star shines) Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 Soloists: Kerry Holahan, Soprano Jeffrey Fahnestock, Tenor Bach In Baltimore hosts First Sunday Concerts, with vocal and instrumental soloists and guest youth choral groups, affordably to the public on the First Sunday of Every Month, October - June. Bach In Baltimore believes that music can be used to bring our community closer together and to help solve social problems. Our mission is to continue to perform the choral and orchestral works of Johann Sebastian Bach (and his contemporaries) while educating youth and the concert-going public about the musical language of Bach and the texts he chose to set to music. Concerts are given with these goals in mind. They are performed as intended by Bach in the original 18th century setting, with professional orchestral accompaniment, accomplished Baroque soloists, and choir. Our goal is to grow and diversify our audience, specifically, to engage more of our neighbors in Baltimore City, and continue our Student Voice Exchange and other educational commitments to Baltimore Youth.
