1 Hudson Yards, New York City NY

Description

This is not your typical job posting. You get free housing in a gorgeous luxury 3-bedroom apartment ($11,000 per month rent) in Hudson Yards overlooking the High Line. But wait, there's more! I will also pay $1,500 cash each month, tax free. Oh yeah -- also, free food. That's $44,000 worth of housing + $18,000 cash + $5,000 worth of food, equivalent to over $100,000 pre-tax salary -- all for about 3 - 4 hours of work per day. What's the gig, you ask? Well, I’m the Chief Digital Architect of a healthcare startup you've probably heard of. I'm looking for two roommates to support me in my daily life (I have muscular dystrophy). I'm in a wheelchair and need some help to get in and out of it, which is why I am looking for you :) WHAT I NEED HELP WITH... - Full availability between two people (this is effectively two job postings) so someone is almost always around in case I have to use the restroom since I cannot get in / out of my wheelchair by myself - Daily morning routine: getting me out of bed, carrying me to get in and out of my wheelchair (I weigh about 135 pounds, so strength is a must), helping me get dressed, etc. - Prepare simple meals - Help shower once a week, maybe help going to the pool in the building - Do some stretching exercises with me (don't worry, I'll show you how) - Help with random things here and there like plugging in my iPhone WHAT I'LL LIKE ABOUT YOU... - You treat people like people - You are chill, empathetic and enjoy helping - You have a happy, fun, positive and open-minded personality - You are a great communicator, transparent, self-reflective who will speak up early if you need something - You are smart and organized - You enjoy healthy cooking - You don’t need experience as a nurse or anything like that - BONUS: you like or even play music :) - BONUS: You enjoy travelling (sometimes I like to spend a few weeks in Florida or Costa Rica) WHAT YOU'LL LIKE ABOUT THIS GIG... - You’ll live for free in a luxury modern apartment at the heart of Hudson Yards in New York City - You'll get free groceries, internet, cable, etc. - You’ll get a $1,500 monthly stipend - The apartment has lots of great amenities, e.g. roof deck with bbq, swimming pool, basketball court, Equinox gym, bowling alley, pool billiard, launch areas. Direct entries for walks on the highline and two blocks from Hudson waterside - There'll be two of you, so 50% of the time you'll be completely free to do, well, anything. - Mostly, I’ll need availability in case I need to use the restroom, so you'll have a ton of time to do any type of freelance / at-home work you'd like - You get to live with a fun person that cares about you being happy :) ABOUT ME I'm 45 years old and young at heart. My friends say I'm kind, empathetic, flexible, and open minded. I love adventure, traveling, and have a deep love for music. I used to play the piano and guitar for many years but am not able to do so anymore, so now I enjoy singing for myself and making little songs for my friends :) I was born as a middle child in the beautiful city of Berlin, Germany. After school I studied computer science and worked on robots that play soccer and self-driving cars. As part of that I often traveled to other countries which I always enjoy. In 2008 I was looking for a new adventure and moved to New York to start together with friends a healthcare startup that helps people live healthier lives. Since then I live and fell in love with the energy of New York (but go home twice a year to visit friends and family). I love the warm summers here - I'm a sun-child: if sun is shining in my face I'm happy :) A couple of years ago I started "summer in February" and rent a house with friends/colleagues somewhere warm and live and work together remotely for a month. Also, I'm a mutant. Not a ninja turtle - instead I have a rare form of muscular dystrophy called FSHD. Luckily, I was a spontaneous mutation so my brother and sister as well as my parents are all fine. The disease is progressive over time - I can still remember vividly jumping around as a kid and since 16 I have a wheelchair. I used to have my own studio by myself but in the past 2 years I got weaker and now am unable to get back into my wheelchair by myself anymore. During covid times I lived outside of New York together with roommates. Now I'm back in New York and got a nice 3 bedroom apartment right by Hudson Yards in Chelsea. I'm looking for 2 awesome roommates to share the apartment that will enjoy helping and have fun together <3 If you're interested, please write me a 2 - 3 paragraph email explaining why you're perfect for this job (and tell me what you'll be doing to keep yourself busy during the hours that I need you around but don't need you to do anything). Also, please don't send any attachments. Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon!
