Explore the history of tastemaking in Old New Castle with a guided walk around the neighborhood Join us for a guided walk departing Saturdays and Sundays from the Read House steps. Tours begin with a look inside a few of our most iconic rooms and continue with an easy stroll along the town's storied cobblestone streets. You'll discover how the Read House and its inhabitants over the years were at the center of tastemaking, preservation, and the famously historic vibes of the New Castle as we see it today. Audio App Availability To make your visit more comfortable, all of our tours now include the option to amplify your guide's voice using your personal mobile device. Please meet at the Read House steps 5-10 minutes prior to the tour start time for check-in and be prepared to show either a digital or printed version of your ticket. In the case of inclement weather please check our website for potential cancellations. Tours will generally run rain or shine. In the event that weather prohibits a tour from going off, we will contact the registrant in your group via email to help reschedule your visit, free of charge. The Read House & Gardens is a National Historic Landmark in Old New Castle, DE, owned and operated by the Delaware Historical Society. It was built between 1797 and 1804 and remains one of the most spectacular Federal-period mansions in America.
