CLARKSTOWN, NY — The Clarkstown Board of Education has scheduled two meetings for the upcoming week, a special meeting Monday on class size and its regular meeting Thursday, where the district's reopening plans will be on the agenda. The Special Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Clarkstown High School South Auditorium and two topics are on the agenda: an elementary class size presentation and discussion and an update about the federal pandemic funding. Public comments will be limited to agenda items only; people wishing to comment will be able to sign up. The school board's next regular meeting is on Thursday in the Clarkstown High School SouthAuditorium. The board will convene at 7 p.m. and go into executive session, returning for public session at 8 p.m. One item on the agenda is the 2021-22 reopening plan, about which parents have expressed worry, anxiety and anger. The board did not complete a meeting Aug. 12 because at the start a large group of attendees refused to wear masks and yelled, cursed and mocked school officials. They said they oppose the district's decision on universal indoor masking and laughed uproariously at a school official who mentioned the delta variant. District trustees met briefly the next morning to vote on a few necessary actions. For those wishing to attend the meetings in person, district officials have set three criteria: The maximum number of attendees is 370, the social-distance requirement is 3 feet, and masks should be worn at both meetings. Both meetings will be also live-streamed here. Recordings will be posted within a few days of the meetings. Board of Education meeting agendas are available through the BoardDocs link on the district's website. School starts in Clarkstown Sept. 1.
