Description
WAUWATOSA, WI — Residents can request a radar speed sign be placed on their street, according to the Wauwatosa Police Department.
The signs can detect a car's speed and display it on a screen, showing the driver how fast she is traveling. The sign can also collect the data to identify possible problem areas within the city.
Radar signs have been proven to be so-called "traffic calming" devices as they increase awareness and alert drivers of their speed, police said.
The police department makes arrangements for the sign to be placed. Residents are asked to call the department's community support division to get on a list for a sign. The sign will go up for three or four days before moving to its next location.
