Press release from City of Meriden: 8/21/2021 City of Meriden Hurricane Henri Preparedness Advisory MERIDEN—Hurricane Henri is estimated to make landfall across the eastern Long Island coast early Sunday, August 22 with winds and rain accumulation until Monday, August 23. The main threats from Hurricane Henri are a potential storm surge, heavy rain capable of producing flooding, and tropical storm or hurricane force winds. A forecasted widespread rainfall of 3 – 6 inches can be anticipated, with possible higher localized amounts. Residents are advised not to drive through low-lying roads that may be flooded or through any still water, which could potentially result in becoming stranded. Residents are advised to stay away from downed electrical wires and report them to 9-1-1 and Eversource. Emergency shelters will be available beginning today: North Branford Intermediate School (245 Foxon Road North Branford) - opening at 6 p.m. Career High School (140 Legion Ave New Haven) - opening at 7 p.m. Geraldine Johnson High School (475 Lexington Ave Bridgeport) - opening at 6 a.m. North Branford Intermediate School (245 Foxon Road North Branford) - opening at 6 p.m.   The City of Meriden advises the community to remain indoors upon arrival of Hurricane Henri . -30-Belen Michelis, Strategic Communications Specialist, [email protected], 203-535-5663 This press release was produced by City of Meriden.
