What was the hurry to abandon the base? Leaving jets and helicopters that we then tried to destroy with air strikes? Why was everything so completely backwards? First we pulled all our troops out. About 1500 advisers and forward air observers. Leaving all the non combatants. No one was warned we were leaving. Not our allies. Not our people. Even the embassy was caught by surprise. Then we had to mobilize troops and re-insert them. Now we are back up to 6,000 in country. So we went backwards in saying 'we are pulling out of afghanistan'. What is the sleepy old man going to do when china annexes taiwan? Evacuate the philippines, maybe korea... who knows?
