With support from the Jackson Legacy Foundation and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Elevate Together grant, which was initiated to support the acceleration of creation, growth, and prosperity of Black and Hispanic businesses, PARA.MAR Dance Theatre will offer it's first FREE Community Pop-Up performances, together, with, and for (PARA) the ROGERS EDGE Community on Saturday, August 28th from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
Schedule of Events:
3:00pm - Open Warm Up - Watch the P/M Dancers warm-up on stage and prep for the show!4:00pm - PARA.MAR Dance Theatre performances!Designed to be performed alongside the extraordinary 40’ x 80’ public art mural “Respiration” by artist Mauricio Ramirez, the new Chicago-based contemporary ballet company PARA.MAR Dance Theatre will share selections of their repertory in conversation with the space and community it inhabits.
Ramirez, who describes this work as being inspired by conversations from the very community it is located in, Escuchela, la ciudad respirando (Listen, the city breathes) explores the concept of borders and boundaries, while celebrating diversity, identity, and culture.
We found “Respiration” to be the perfect backdrop and inspiration for PARA.MAR Dance Theatre to explore and serve its own mission of celebrating diversity, identity, and culture through the empowerment of diverse artistic voices in contemporary ballet.
Tickets are FREE but donations are WELCOME!
