Description

Bell Joy Ride at Haw Ridge Sunday, Sept 19th, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Let's go explore Haw Ridge. Many of us have never ridden at Haw Ridge near Oak Ridge and it is time to rectify it. Some of you may have heard the saying "Keep Haw Raw", because, well, Haw Ridge has some of the most rugged mountain biking terrain in the area. Don't let that scare you off, we will be sure to have routes planned for all abilities! Haw Ridge is also home to the the Dirt Lab, which is a skills area with drops and a pump track and other fun features that will provide smiles for miles. So grab a friend or come alone and make new friends with us at Haw Ridge. This event is free, but register by September 16th. This helps us ensure we have enough volunteers and supplies. We will not have demo bikes available the day of the event but Harper's Bike Shop has a couple you can reserve in advance. Please call them to make arrangements. Other local bike shops might do the same. Harper's will be on hand to do quick bike checks before the ride. If you need them to look at your bike, please get there early. Our rides are pressure-free and worry-free. We make sure every rider is comfortable with the group's pace and that no section of trail is beyond the ability level of the group. E-bike are welcome. Joy Ride Full Event Schedule Please bring your helmet, shoes, ride snacks, water, and a way to carry it on your ride! Bring a spare tube if you have one. PLEASE arrive before 10:00 AM for sign-in! Ride leaders needed! We are looking for ride leaders and sweeps to lead our ride groups in a fun and safe manner. If you are a confident rider with a genuine interest in sharing your love of the sport, please select "volunteer" in the ticket option below and be on the lookout for an email from [email protected]. You don't have to be an advanced rider to volunteer; just be confident at the level you choose in a follow-up form. It would be ideal for you to be familiar with Haw Ridge, but if you aren't we will pair you with a rider who is. I am also hoping to do a volunteer pre-ride the week before. Riding Levels New Rider: I'm entirely new to mountain biking, or I've attempted a couple of rides but would love to receive a little coaching. You will get on the dirt, get comfortable with your bike, gear, and learn some basic mountain biking skills. Distances will be up to 7 miles. Expect to be out 2.0 hours. Beginner: I'm relatively new to mtb (still a beginner); I like it and want to learn about how to be comfortable on varied terrain with more technical features, but I'm not quite ready for drops and jumps. - Expect to be out 2 hrs. Beginner Plus: I'm comfortable on the easier trails and and I'm venturing out onto harder trails but still have to walk some of the more technical features. My stamina is getting better and I want to improve my technical abilities on more challenging terrain. Expect to be out ~2+ hrs. Intermediate: I am a very confident rider and can ride my bike on very technical terrain. I can be out for hours at a time on a regular basis. I enjoy pushing the limits. Volunteer: I'm a confident rider. I know the trails well, and I'd love to help out as a ride leader or sweep! There will be a separate form for you to list your volunteer preferences. You don't have to be an advanced rider to volunteer; just be confident at the level you choose in the volunteer form.
