Foxboro Mom Hosts Clothing Drive To Benefit Marfan Foundation

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Sue Allen is hosting an ongoing clothing drive to benefit the Marfan Foundation. Working with HELPSY, the largest clothing recycling collector in the Northeast, the clothing is recycled and generates funds that go directly to the Marfan Foundation programs. Allen's son was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome at 5 years old. Now at 15, Cameron is helping his mother host this drive to share information on the rare syndrome. Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the body's connective tissue, which holds the body's cells, organs, and tissue together. The connective tissue affected by Marfan plays an important role in helping the body grow and develop properly. Because of Cameron's struggles, the Allen family "has been made to appreciate the things that other families with teenagers take for granted, such as playing sports, diving into water or wrestling with buddies without medical risk," explained Allen in a statement. The Marfan Foundation is dedicated to research, patient support, and educational efforts. Items accepted during the clothing drive include unwanted clothing in any condition, shoes,stuffed animals, bedding, towels, table linens, and curtains. Worn, torn, or stained items are allowed. For this clothing drive, the Allen family requests donations are dropped off on August 29 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Church of Emmanuel, located at 106 Central Street in Foxboro.
