Press release from the West Des Moines Police Department: 08/20/2021 11:50 AM   Officers with the West Des Moines Police Department in conjunction with the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement during the week of August 23rd, 2021 as students return to school in the West Des Moines Community.  Officers will be conducting traffic enforcement in and around our schools in an effort to reduce traffic related injuries/accidents on Iowa roadways.  This Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) event will focus on all traffic violations, as well as a heightened awareness on pedestrian safety related to increased traffic movement around the schools.  The West Des Moines Police Department is asking all drivers to please be mindful and aware as more pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic will be prevalent as students return to classrooms around the area.
