OHIO — The Ohio Department of Health recommends all students wear masks while in classrooms, but state officials have left the ultimate decision on masking up to individual school districts. As the delta variant spurs a renewed surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations statewide, many officials are urging schools to implement mask policies. Public schools were barred from mandating eligible students or staff receive a COVID-19 vaccine by the Ohio General Assembly, though districts can still implement their own mask policies. With many school systems preparing for the first day of school, Patch is looking at what many school districts have planned for this year. Districts Requiring Masks Mask policies vary by district, with some only requiring students of certain grade levels to mask up, and others vowing to review masking guidelines after a few weeks of school.
