WORCESTER, MA — Two people have been arrested for kidnapping a four-day-old baby on Saturday in Worcester, according to police. The infant's mother met with an acquaintance Saturday morning for coffee. When the trio stopped at a gas station in the Main South area at around 9:15 a.m., the acquaintance, a 19-year-old Millbury woman, drove off with the child. The mother was able to find a Holy Cross police officer, who alerted Worcester police. After publicizing the incident, police found the mother's car miles away in Shrewsbury — but the infant and woman were not with it. Just after noon, police discovered the baby had been left with a bystander at a Subway restaurant along Lincoln Street in Worcester. Police found the 19-year-old suspect at a nearby Wendy's along with a 23-year-old Worcester man who police say helped take the child. Both were charged with kidnapping and reckless endangerment of a child, Worcester police said. The infant girl was not harmed during the incident, police said.
