Wakeland at VZD's (Night 1) Friday 9/17! Presented by SoundBoard Entertainment ALL AGES Wakeland Oklahoma's own Wakeland returns to the VZD's Friday and Saturday 9/17/21 and 9/18/21! We started out in 1990 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the time we were just a group of friends getting together to play some music. We were content playing covers and partying at first... but as our crowds grew we began to work up original material. Those songs soon evolved into six songs and led to our first recorded EP Cassette, "Nothing Lasts Forever". Little did we know this would be the start of a ten plus year career for all of us. The three of us, Brad, Chris and Shane, have been together throughout this rollercoaster ride. During our career we have had a few changes at bass player... but, the core of our band has been constant since 2001: Brad Heinrichs (guitar and vocals), Chris Sullivan (vocals and guitar), Chris Greenley (bass), and Shane Litsch (drums). As we evolved from a cover band our live audiences grew. In the following years we recorded our first two albums "Wanting" in 1992 and "To See The Sun" in 1994. Both were very successful independent releases. Successful enough that we were signed to a major label record deal by Giant Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. While on Giant we released our third album "Magnetic" {1995}... it was our only album on Giant and let's just say we learned a lot from that experience. Once free from a very grueling couple of years {of touring, touring, touring and touring} with the label we decided to pull back a little and try and remember why we started the band. It was not hard to remember and we went to work and released an acoustic album "Stripped" {1998}. It was a blast to make and once again, independently, we found success selling 8,000 copies of the album at our shows. Following "stripped" we went right back into the studio and recorded the self-entitled "Wakeland" in 1998. For that album we toured regionally returning to the cities that had fostered our growth in the early days. But, we were still searching for that drive and desire we had in the days of our first two albums. In the year following the release of "Wakeland" we rediscovered our love for being in this band. For the next two years we played sparingly {just enough to test our new songs out on a live audience} as we toiled in the studio over our next release. Our hard work paid off March 10th, 2000 we released our sixth studio album, "Blur", our bright shining star and the building block for many more years of creating and performing music. After more than a decade of playing, recording, and crisscrossing the US in assorted vans, recreational vehicles and busses, Wakeland played a final show on NYE of 2004. Everyone spent the next decade+ pursuing other interests, building families, but missing the stage. In September of 2015, Wakeland reunited to play the reopening of the historic VZD’s in Oklahoma City. Originally conceived as a one-time event, the band has continued play a few shows each year to large, enthusiastic crowds, and has no plans of ending anytime soon. In fact, the band has new material that it is working on in the studio, and recently dropped an acoustic album that was recorded in 2002 but never released. New album released in the summer of 2019 Wakeland VZD's - Oklahoma City - OK
