The Global Scholars Foundation will host its Second Annual Golf Tournament at the prestigious Country Club at Woodmore on October 26, 2021. Proceeds from this golf tournament will support the Global Scholar Foundation’s work to prepare students for post-secondary education and to raise their global competency through cultural immersion opportunities. Since 2006, GSF has touched the lives of more than 200 students through Washington, D.C., particularly in Wards 7 and 8. Established in 2006 by the H Street Community Development Corporation, Global Scholars Foundation provides D.C. Public School and D.C. Public Charter School students ages 14-18 with college readiness, financial literacy, college readiness and global competency skills through experiential cultural and language immersion programs.  GSF’s goal is to introduce teens in urban areas to global experiences through language and cultural studies as they prepare for college and the workplace. GSF concentrates on introducing a diverse group of DC teenagers who are interested in building their cultural competency, as defined by the National Education Association (NEA), through international awareness, appreciation of cultural diversity, proficiency in foreign languages, and competitive skills. Scholars are immersed in a one-year intensive study program—delving deeply into the history and culture of select cities and countries. During the course of the program, students travel to other states within the U.S. and internationally to absorb regional cultures, visit museums, and exhibitions. Scholars also attend literary events featuring local writers; hear elected officials share their vision for the city; and are inspired by teachers and community leaders who support their vision. GSF partners with the diplomatic community, and scholars tour embassies and learn firsthand from people representing the countries studied. GSF scholars have visited six continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, South America and Europe) and studied four foreign languages (Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic).
