Description

Finance Factors Foundation 7th Annual Golf Tournament: Supporting Sustainability Programs Within Our Hawaii Public Schools Proceeds raised by our Charity Golf Tournament will allow The Finance Factors Foundation to support the sustainability programs in some of our elementary schools. The sustainability program is a way for students to learn to use resources while not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, thereby supporting long-term ecological balance. Sustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Sustainability has three pillars: economic, environmental and social; better known as people, planet and profits. Sustainability means creating an economic system that provides for quality of life while renewing the environment and its resources. A sustainable community is one that resembles a living system where all of the resources (human, natural, and economic) are renewed and in balance for perpetuity. The sustainability program is widely being taught within our public schools. It is not a separate subject – it is imbedded across all relevant learning areas. Sustainability activities can be fun, engaging and empowering for students. It allows them to take responsibility for their actions and to contribute their vision for a sustainable future.
