Voters Organized to Educate is a New Orleans based non-profit led by formerly incarcerated people focused on advocacy for voting rights, criminal justice reform, and mobilizing voters to the polls. In 2019, we hosted Justice Votes, a presidential candidate forum held inside Eastern State Penitentiary; among attendees were (now) Vice President Kamala Harris. Our organization worked with Voice of the Experienced (VOTE), our sister organization, to win voting rights for people on probation and on long-term parole while also helping to end the non-unanimous jury system in Louisiana. In 2021, we changed the law that barred people convicted of felonies from serving on juries.
