Description
Panel discussion to celebrate Latinx heritage and culture through architecture and design. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) presents a celebration of LatinX Heritage Month through the lens of art, culture and architectural design. This panel-led discussion examines our U.S./Mexico border and the positive impact art, culture, and architecture has on both communities. The program will also feature scholars from each side of the border sharing their thoughts on the same topics, providing a forum for students and citizens to weigh in and be heard. In response to the political and racial turmoil of the past few years, artist MR Barnabas of Collective Magpie shares her ongoing art series Poetic Exploration of Race Survey. Both an art piece and experience to probe, jostle and possibly better understand a wider range of the race/ethnicity and class experience of people in the US today. Hear about how art can be integrated into landscape architecture in a discussion with Rocio Gertler, Landscape Architect of LPA Design Studios. She will share how her work in landscape design reflects the unique attributes of each project site and architecture. Explore how the joy of food /drink and culture brings communities together in a discussion with architects Barbara Leon and Carlos E. Hernandez of Heleo Architecture. They’ll share their latest community centric designs for breweries and dispensaries across the border. Finally join us in a discussion with architect/ developer/artist, James Brown FAIA as he shares his vision for BUILD THAT PARK! A campaign for a truly united bi-national international friendship park in celebration of the park's 50th anniversary. This event is also being offered virtually, in English and en Español.
