TEWKSBURY, MA — The last 10 years have marked a dramatic shift in the demographic makeup of the United States, with a marked shrinkage of the white population and the rapid growth of the Hispanic community. In Tewksbury, the white population grew over the last decade by 0.25 percent, while most other racial and ethnic groups grew significantly more. The Hispanic or Latino population of Tewksbury more than doubled, adding over 600 people. Tewksbury also reported particularly large growth in its Asian population, adding over 500 residents of Asian descent, and the Black non-Hispanic population more than doubled to 726 residents in 2020. >>Tewksbury's Population Grew Over 8% From 2010 To 2020: Census Like the country as a whole, Tewksbury also showed an increase in the number of people who identified themselves as multiracial, although the reasons are complex. Experts say the increase reflects changes in the way people identify themselves, changes in the wording of census forms and the number of children born to parents of mixed races or ethnicities. The number of Tewksbury residents listing two or more races more than doubled from 2010 to 2020, to over 900 people.
