PORT CHESTER, NY — Concertgoers in the front row at the September 3, Tom Petty Project show at the Capitol Theatre's Garcia's lounge will be wearing masks, while those a little farther away from the performers might have the option of going maskless. After a pandemic year without music, the venue in Port Chester is once again attracting touring acts from around the globe. The impressive upcoming lineup includes Phil Lesh and Friends, Steely Dan, Sheryl Crow, Umphrey's McGee, the Pixies and Foreigner among others, but the return of live music doesn't mean that concern about coronavirus has left the building. This week, the Capitol Theatre released updated COVID-19 safety protocols for its venues. The theater cautioned that the just released policies are subject to updates as advice from health officials changes and suggested ticket holders check the latest safety rules before heading to the show. "The Capitol Theatre and Garcia's are committed to the safety and well-being of our community, from patrons to staff to artists, crews, and management," the venue said announcing the new guidelines. As of now, all attendees must show proof of either full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of entry. The Capitol considers fully vaccinated to be at least two weeks following either a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Concertgoers will need to present an ID matching the name on vaccine documentation. Acceptable methods for providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination will include the Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe App, CDC Vaccination Card or NYC Vaccination Record. The venue will accept either a negative rapid antigen test or PCR test as proof of testing results at the gates. No antibody test results will be accepted. Either paper or digital copies will be accepted for entrance. Patrons who cannot provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test upon arrival to the venue will not be granted entry. Regardless of vaccination status, attendees are being encouraged to wear masks at all times. Patrons standing in the front row of a performance at Garcia's must wear a mask at all times. Staff at the theater are all fully vaccinated and will wear masks at all times. The venue is asking ticket holders to stay home if they are feeling sick, reminding music fans, "there will be other shows when you're feeling better."
