Description
NORTHBOROUGH, MA — A fire at the Motel 6 this morning caused some momentary panic when firefighters were falsely informed that an occupant was trapped.
Northborough Fire Department got the call of a fire at the Motel 6, located at 27 Belmont St., just before 6 a.m. this morning.
While on route, "We were told there was a fire in the building and that an occupant was trapped in a unit," Fire Chief David Parenti said.
When firefighters arrived, they forced their way into the unit, located on the first floor, and found a fire on and around the bed. The room turned out to not be occupied, said Parenti.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze with assistance from Westborough, Shrewsbury, and Southborough Fire Departments. Worcester EMS also assisted at the scene.
The health department and building department remain on scene to assess when people can return to the building.
There were no injuries. Cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Parenti.
