JOB TITLE: Landscape/Horticulture Lead DEPARTMENT: Grounds CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Administrator HOURS: Full-Time (Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm) SUMMARY: Landscape/Horticulture Lead should enjoy working outdoors and are detail-oriented Associates in these positions should have general knowledge of both landscaping and machinery. Responsible for planting, mowing, pulling weeds and have a working knowledge of machinery maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS: •Must understand and support the mission of the Daughters of Charity and Vincentian Values as stated in the Seton Employee Handbook •Must possess personal qualities of integrity, respect for others, good judgment, and good communication skills •Prior landscaping and/ or horticulture experience •Ability to operate heavy machinery •Thorough knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a ground’s maintenance program; thorough knowledge of methods, procedures, materials, and equipment used in such activities •Thorough knowledge of practices, standards, methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in a ground’s maintenance program; thorough knowledge of and ability to utilize materials, methods and equipment used in lawn care and general maintenance work •Thorough knowledge of horticulture principles and practices; plants adapted to the climate and water resources of area, with regard for those varieties suitable; thorough knowledge of various types of soil in the area, together with a good knowledge of proper fertilizers •Thorough knowledge of common tree, ornamental shrub and lawn pests and diseases and the methods of control and eradication; thorough knowledge of various chemical agents; ability to use such in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions •Thorough knowledge of trimming and pruning techniques •Thorough knowledge of methods and materials used in landscaping, fence construction, and paving •Thorough knowledge of installation, operation, and maintenance of various irrigational systems •Thorough knowledge of safe work practices including applicable OSHA guidelines •Ability to multi-task and prioritize, and flexibility to re-prioritize as needed •Ability to work with others in a manner that creates harmony and promotes cooperation •Ability to maintain confidentiality •Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as needed EDUCATION: •Ability to read and understand instructions and safety precautions in English •High School graduate preferred ESSENTIAL DUTIES: •Plan, coordinate, and participate in grounds maintenance tasks such as edging, mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, fertilizing, placing sod, raking, planting, tree pruning •Plan, coordinate, and participate in repairs on irrigation systems, equipment, structures, facilities, equipment, and grounds •Plan, coordinate, and participate in landscape programming including planting, spraying, fertilizing, mulching, watering, transplanting, lawn care and maintenance •Plan, prioritize, assign, and lead work of grounds team; monitor productivity and workflow ensuring adherence to established deadlines and preventive maintenance schedules; analyze and resolve work problems •Identify and allocate resources; accordingly, requisition supplies and equipment for projects and coordinate their use; maintain and distribute supplies and equipment inventory •Ensure adherence to proper methods and safety requirements; ensure the safe and productive use of equipment utilized in grounds maintenance and associated repair work; assist in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and oversee preventative maintenance activities •Maintain current knowledge and records of pesticides and hazardous materials used in ground maintenance and ensure full and complete team training of chemical applications and usage procedures •Participate and supervise the use of the operation of a variety of hand and power tools, light and heavy equipment, and vehicles •Respond to emergency situations to confine, resolve, or prevent unsafe or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris, spills, broken windows, broken locks •Stay up to date of the latest trends and innovations in the field of grounds maintenance and operations •Participate in the preparation and administration of the grounds budget; submit budget recommendations and monitor expenditures; maintain records and reports on personnel and work performed. •Other duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: •Lifting up to 50 lbs. without restrictions •Walking, standing for long periods of time, maintaining balance, bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level and climb a ladder •Work is performed primarily outdoors •Work environment may be damp, noisy, dusty, greasy and involve the use of heavy machinery •Exposure to climate change and chemicals •Moderately stressful •May occasionally need to respond quickly to urgent situations •Ability to drive
