NEWTON, MA — Mayoral candidate Amy Sangiolo will once again spend her Saturday morning running through the streets of one of Newton's thirteen villages, inviting residents to join her to get some exercise and discuss current issues, learn about her positions, and ask questions. This Saturday's "Run With Amy" will take place in Oak Hill starting at 9:00 a.m. The run will begin and end at the Shuman Center, located at 675 Saw Mill Brook Pkwy. "Visiting our villages is a great way for Amy to hear from residents about their views on development in their neighborhood and throughout the City," said Deputy Campaign Strategist Mei Seva in a statement. "Amy is all about listening to residents and understanding their concerns. These events are a great opportunity to discuss why Amy supports responsible development to increase our affordable housing stock, but also wants to preserve single-family neighborhoods like Oak Hill to attract families." As a former City Councilor, Sangiolo proposed measures to prevent Newton's naturally affordable housing stock from being swallowed up by larger developments, advocating in favor of a temporary moratorium on demolitions of small and moderate sized homes to ensure that replacement structures fit within the character of the city's neighborhoods. "I believe diversity of our housing stock in our neighborhoods is essential to making Newton attractive to a wide variety of residents" said Sangiolo in a statement. "We have lots of smaller homes that are being torn-down and developed into very expensive large homes - leaving very few options for young families and down-sizing seniors options to move to or stay-in Newton." Those who do not want to run the 1.5 mile route on Saturday are invited to join the outdoor discussion over coffee at 9:30 a.m. All participants are asked to RSVP here. Anyone with questions regarding the event can email [email protected].
