Akita Puppy Needs Forever Home

Description

I adopted this puppy at 8 weeks-old but unfortunately my older dog just is not tolerating her. Sunny is just over 13 weeks now and she and my 10-year-old shih-tzu are starting to get into little play scraps, but the problem is my older dog (the shih tzu)is terrified. She is not tolerating Sunny, who is doing big puppy things. The other dog, Prune, is extremely unhappy and anxious about the whole thing. Sunny is a great dog, and this is painful to have to do, but I just can't bear to put my older dog through this stress in her last few years, and being a small dog (Shih-Tzu) she could be in danger if she antagonizes a growing Akita who just wants to play. Sunny was born on 5/19. She is vaccinated/de-wormed up to 12 weeks, pretty well house-broken and getting better every day, and has been doing great with basic training (sit, stay, down, fetch, etc.). Sunny is enrolled in puppy training classes at the Oakland Dog Training Club (7-week class Tuesdays at 7:00PM, just started Tuesday, 8/10). I would recommend continuing attendance in this group class because the exposure to other dogs and people in a comtrolled setting will be very important for her growth. Sunny is a wonderful girl. She has been exposed to many people and friend's dogs, but will need continued socializing, obviously. I have spent countless hours working woth her, not to mention a ton of money on toys, crate, food, other pet stuff, vaccinations, and the training classes which are all included in a modest re-homing fee (we can discuss based on your interest/circumstances). I have been spending 2 hours each day training her at home, once before work and once in the evenings. she loves treats and is very quick to learn new things. What is most important to me is that she ends up in a great home. The ideal home would not have any other pets, as Akitas do not like to share their family's attention with other dogs and need to be very well exposed to tolerate other animals. I really wish I could get my other dog to accept her, but it seems to be a time bomb waiting to explode. Whoever adopts Sunny will be very lucky. Thanks
