HOWARD COUNTY, MD — People are needed to serve on Howard County's Commission on Aging, especially individuals age 55 and older. Commission members also will function as a commission representative to the Adult Public Guardianship Review Board. The deadline to apply is Sept. 3. "Howard County is working towards becoming a more age-friendly community, and that important work starts with valued input from our residents," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. "I encourage any 55+ adult who hopes to better our community to apply for the Commission on Aging and help us make Howard County the best place to live no matter your age." Comprised of 15 members, the Commission on Aging strives to promote successful aging for older adults in Howard County. The commission's work includes participating in community activities, researching and advising the county executive on policies, programs and practices that impact the health and wellbeing of older adults and their families and providing advice and support to county agencies, non-profits and other stakeholders working to create an equitable, livable and accessible community for all older adults in Howard County. The Adult Public Guardianship Review Board provides impartial oversight of the care and services provided to individuals under public guardianship and makes a recommendation to the court as to whether the public guardianship should be continued, modified or terminated. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be Howard County residents, 55 years of age or older, have an interest in maintaining an older adult-friendly county and be able to attend the commission and board's meetings. The Commission on Aging meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., whereas the Adult Public Guardianship Review Board meets the first Thursday of February, May, August and November at 9 a.m. at 9780 Patuxent Woods Drive in Columbia. Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the Commission to Kimberly Pruim either by email to [email protected] or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
