NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A New Brunswick man admitted in federal court Thursday to possessing several kilograms of heroin with the intent to sell, acting U.S. Attorney Rachael Honig announced.
Eduard Avila Rivas, 33, of New Brunswick pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin.
Rivas was arrested for this crime on Feb. 10, 2020 in Clarksboro, New Jersey. Following his arrival there, law enforcement officers searched his car and seized close to three kilograms of heroin packaged for sale.
He is facing a minimum of 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 22.
