Press release from the City of Ames: 08/19/2021 9:00 AM All traffic on 13th Street between Wilson and Duff avenues will be shifted to single-lane traffic in both directions on the north (westbound) two lanes beginning Friday, Aug. 20. The section of 13th Street between Wilson and Burnett avenues being reconstructed as part of phase two of the project is expected to be complete and open to four-lane traffic by Friday, Aug. 27. As phase three begins, single-lane traffic in both directions on the north (westbound) two lanes of 13th Street between Burnett and Duff avenues will begin. The south (eastbound) two lanes between Burnett and Duff avenues will be closed to begin removal and reconstruction of these lanes. Access at Kellogg and Douglas avenues will also be closed, but rocked driveway access to McFarland Clinic and Mary Greeley Medical Center from 13th Street will be available for eastbound traffic. Anticipated duration to complete reconstruction and utilities of this phase of the project is five to six weeks. The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this project, which includes the reconstruction of 13th Street from Wilson to Duff avenues. In addition to new concrete street pavement, the 13th Street project also includes storm and sanitary sewer improvements, water main replacement, residential water transfers, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramp improvements. The project will be completed in five phases to allow emergency vehicles access to and from the Ames Fire Station at 1300 Burnett Ave. At all times, one lane of 13th Street in each direction will remain open to traffic. However, access to side streets will be restricted for safety reasons and to ease potential congestion of the construction zone. Construction is anticipated to be completed in late fall 2021. As with all projects, the actual duration will depend on weather conditions. All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. Please use alternative routes if available.
