By Steve Burger, WNIN Aug. 19, 2021 The Henry Schlensker Farm in northern Vanderburgh County made the list as a sesquicentennial farm for the first time. The farm was established in 1870 and has been in the Schlensker family for more than 150 years. The other Vanderburgh County farm has been around even longer. According to a release from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, the Neiderhaus/Karch farm has been in that family since 1839. In all, seventy three farms across Indiana were honored with the Hoosier Homestead designation at the Indiana State Fair Wednesday. Other Southwestern Indiana farms honored were the Bean family farm in Daviess County and the Hardiman/Lyles/Nolcox/Solomon farm in Gibson County. The Indiana Department of Health reported more than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases Thursday. This is the first time since late-January – the beginning of Indiana's vaccine rollout – the state has reported this many cases in a single day. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
