PennDOT Seeks Public Comment On Swamp Road Bridge Project

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is encouraging Newtown Township residents to weigh in on an upcoming project to improve the Swamp Road Bridge. Residents can review PennDOT's preliminary project plans online before submitting public comment. PennDOT officials will accept public comments online through Aug. 30. The rehabilitation project, scheduled to start in Fall 2024 and finish the next summer, is set to cost $1,075,000, according to PennDOT. Construction crews plan to rebuild a stone retaining wall and repair existing bridge components. Traffic will be detoured around the area for several months, with the proposed route to direct drivers to Route 413 from Worthington Mill Road and the Newtown Bypass. PennDOT's preliminary plans say vehicles will be able to access homes and neighborhoods within the detour area, which includes Bucks County Community College. The Swamp Road Bridge carries vehicles over a small tributary to Neshaminy Creek in Newtown Township. The bridge is located just west of the entrance to Temora Farm, where Tyler State Park meets the northern edge of the community college campus.
