Description
I see where you're coming from, but I think you are barking up the wrong tree.
Yes, let's look at the whole pie: Corporate Welfare and Welfare for Idividuals
Case study: Foxconn.
Wisconsin gave Foxconn $3 billion dollars to build a plant in Mount Pleasant, WI. It was later reduced to $80 million. Still not chump change. What did we get for that money? zilch.
Instead, take that $80 Million and give $1000 to 80,000 Wisconsin families and watch those families spend that money on groceries, clothing, dining out, etc. They put it right back into the economy because they need items and food, they generally don't sandbag it. That drives demand and keeps people working. THAT Spurs the economy. The return on that $80 million would be enormous.
There are MANY cases of corporate welfare everywhere, just take a look locally at the stadiums we built for the Steelers and Pirates. So, instead of using huge sums of money to help ONE company, let's divide among MANY individuals who will turn around and put it right back into our economy. That would benefit all of us.
Let's look at the whoe pie: If we're going to look at welfare, let's ALSO look at corporate welfare.
I don't begrudge needy individuals getting help from my tax money, even if some are too lazy to work. And I know there will be some that take advantage of our generosity, I am not naive. But they still spend it and spur the economy. I am, however, against corporations who make millions in profits and who pay less in taxes than I do, getting my tax money so they could build their plant or stadiums or relocate to a state that pays them more. Their promises of "creating jobs" falls short EVERY SINGLE TIME and we never realize the benefit from our investment.
