If we knew the Afghan army would fall in short order which the State Dept. our intelligence agencies all said would happen months ago then regardless of the military equipment not being meant for returns significant portions should have been moved to a safe haven, we have bases in several Middle Eastern countries where to store. Your premise is hollowed because months before our departure we knew with good certainty the Taliban would take over. We saw for months the Taliban slowly taking control of the country, there was a tipping point and we ignored it. This brings up the next point which is with that knowledge evacuation of all US. citizens, Embassy personnel, Afghans who worked with us that wanted to leave should have been done months before we left, and our military last. What happened wasn't a simple error or miscalculation it was Biden's stubborn ignorance and refusal to care about the aftermath which an Obama official revealed recently when as VP Biden encouragement us to leave Afghanistan was discussed and he was asked about all the innocent Afghans who'd suffer he said "Fuck'em" and he did. I can't think of a more unconscionable act than what Biden just did not only to Afghans but US citizens now trapped there. That Afghan army you're calling cowards lost over 60,000 men fighting the Taliban, they were trained to fight with our close air support which we withdrew. The strategic importance of Afghanistan is immense as a forward base against Iran, Russia and China not to mention Shari law Pakistan. We have over a 100,000 soldiers around the world in Europe, Asia and Africa so a couple of thousand in Afghanistan would be no big deal. We weren't fighting only lending support, hadn't lost a solider in over a year and half. Only our small presence there was enough threat to the Taliban to keep them on the outskirts, Biden pissed that and much more away. You pose a good question. The answers to your question are really quite simple. A. The equipment being left behind in Afghanistan no longer belongs to the U.S. This was equipment that was donated to the Afghani military in hopes that they could defend their own freedom with it. This equipment was never intended to come back from Afghanistan. B. The U.S. intelligence did not predict that the Afghani military and the Afghani government would turn tail and run. Our military leaders believed that the Afghani military would use this equipment to secure their own borders giving the U.S. time to get out. It was understood that the Afghani military would use this equipment to secure their own freedom. They did not. The Afghani government fled the country. The Afghani military ran like cowards. 20 years of U.S. support in Afghanistan was a complete and utter waste. George Bush should be answering for this debacle.
